Rear shock problems
Well, I've had multiple rides on my Specialized Enduro Pro FSR mountain bike spoiled by my rear Fox RL shock fully compressing, and staying locked that way. The latest was about 2 miles into a 15 mile down hill...sigh. That turned into a lot of fun (bottom bracket and crank hit every tree/log/rock in the trail and my pedals kept hitting the uphill side and kicking my around, not to mention making the rock gardens a real joy). So, I decided to finally replace the shock (lucky no one had $800 on the trail, because I probably would have sold the whole bike to them, I was so pissed). Anyway, I calmed down, realized how much it would cost to try to replace the whole bike and checked on Cane Creek for the Cloud Nine rear shock. It has won many high reviews and has tons of support on MTBR.com. Plus, they still have a $100 upgrade offer, which gives you $100 when you return your old shock (of any kind) to them to upgrade to a Cloud Nine. They are shipping me one out very soon!
Comments:
The new shock is working pretty well. I have had about 10 rides on it now. I was a bit surprised at how much bobbing it still has with the rapid compression system (no actual lockout). But I'm getting use to it, and realize I just need to get into better shape and quit hopping around so much when I'm gasping up some of the nasty hills. The shock is smooth as butter and has a VERY nice progressive response. Preloads nice for some good jumps and seems to respond very well.
Now, my front fork is leaking...sigh. Hope it makes it through my trip to Moab!
