South Park
So, I've been a long time hater of South Park. I've never really watched too many episodes in full, and normally pick up ones like "The Christmas Poo", which always reaffirmed by belief.

But now, I've watched a couple choice episodes ("A.W.E.S.O.M-O", "The Jefferesons", and "Chinpokomon"), and I am really liking it. Sigh...I'm slowly reverting in my old age.

Follow up
Just a follow up on the DOOM3 front. I seem to enjoy editing and changing stuff more than actually playing. I always end up programming something or other. Anyway, spent a lot of my "play" time today working on understanding the mod system, and reviewing all the various versions of "flashlight" mods out there (allowing you to have a flash light "duct taped" to your weapon). It works pretty well, and I've gotten into some other things, like colored lighting, etc.

Anyway, still enjoying it quite a bit. I need to spend more time playing instead of "perfecting" it.

Doom3
I was a Senior in college with my first computer (that I personally owned...well, the credit card bank did, anyway), a Gateway 486SX-25, when I first played Doom. Oh, it was the free demo (did ANYONE actually buy DOOM when it first came out?), and I was amazed. Scared the hell out of me, though the aliens TC MOD for it that came out later was FAR worse. I eventually graduated and bought Ultimate Doom, Doom2, and all the quake series. Never did really get into Doom Deathmatch.

Now, Doom3 is out. Almost 10 years later. What an amazing piece of work. The graphics are startling and the character animation, detail, and texturing is phenomenal. The lighting is, typically Doom, but done in such a great way, that you really feel like you are walking through an installation (sort of like Alien, with all those nooks and crannies to hide the baddies). Gone are the square hallways, and ceilings. Now there are real nooks and obscure hiding places, and ceilings that go WAY up.

I have to admidt that it sure reminds me of the original Doom, but also, more than a little like Halflife. There is an obvious plot by the evil corporate head, etc.

One thing I'm VERY upset about, is that there doesn't seem to be any support (yet?) for joystick. Before you get out your Bible and begin preaching about how much better a mouse is than joystick, let me just explain that I only use the "joystick" function to use my USB rudder pedals as slide left/right. I've done this in just about every FPS since Quake, and it is how I play. I've always had to dink around with advanced settings and stuff to get it to work, but in this case, it doesn't even seem to be available. Sigh. That is most unfortunate.

Well, off to play a little more before my wife screams at me to come help with the boys.
