You never realize how fragile things are, until something bad happens. Take kids, for example. Riley, who is going to be 3 in September, has had numerous bumps, bruises, cuts, and splinters without too much concern or serious consequences. Well, that all changed when a completely accidental fall left him with a skull fracture over 4th of July. Of course, we didn't know it was a skull fracture until later when he developed some pretty good bleeding and a hematoma/swelling (big ass bump/goose egg) above his right ear and took him in for some xrays and head CT's. Really takes the wind out of your breath.

Sounds like everything is fine now, and he shouldn't need any special protection or surgery, but I sure can't imagine what I would do if anything really bad happened to him. sigh.
